Garden Trends for 2017

Natural Materials

For years, minimalism has been the “in-trend” for gardens and now as we all seek to become greener and more natural this is reflecting in our garden designs too. Think less concrete and more wood and timber, especially in permanent features such as garden walls and fences, lots and lots of green plants; grasses and shrubs compliment this look perfectly and environmentally friendly garden furniture.

This Danish concept of “ultimate cosiness” seemed to burst onto the interior design scene last year and now it’s time to put it into place in the garden. This doesn’t mean any huge constructional changes though, just a comfy seat, a fire pit, some twinkling fairy lights and some candles will do the trick.

Gone are the days when lighting was purely functional, the purpose of it is now just as much about decoration as it is about its original purpose. Uplighters showing off your most precious plants and lanterns nestled amongst garden foliage are really effective ways of adding another dimension to your garden and you’ll be surprised at the amount of light it actually generates as you sit and enjoy some late-night alfresco dining in the summer.

Outdoor Kitchens

Ever had a barbeque but felt like you were missing the party because you were prepping the food in the kitchen? 2017 is all about making your garden into another fully functioning room and this includes an outdoor kitchen. Whilst it may seem like an extravagance to go to in this country with more and more people using pergolas with roofs and an abundance of outdoor heating options available, barbeques are no longer summer exclusive. Create an outdoor kitchen with some form of shelter so that if the great British summer lets us down – there is no need to call off the party.

Grow Your Own

In our last blog post, we shared a few of the healthy foods that you can grow in your garden. This is set to be a huge trend or 2017 as we become more and more health conscious. As well as creating delicious crops some of the plants are strikingly beautiful too.
